Three TPV staff smash top awards, R02

For second time in a row, The Pillar’s Voice, the school’s official publication, was adjudged as one of the Best Tertiary School Publications – Magazine Category in Region 02. Three TPV editors topped during the 7th Higher Education Regional Press Conference on February16-18 held at Villa Victoria Hotel, Tuguegarao City.

TPV editors Khenard A. Ramil emerged as 1st place in news writing and Jael F. Pagulayan ranked as 3rd place in sports writing, cartoonist Rex G. Carig landed at 4th place in literary graphics all in English category.

TPV smashed four section awards including two 2nd Place for Best Page Design (Layout) and Literary Page, 3rd Place Sports Page and 5th Place Best Cover Design.

With the theme, “Campus Journalists: Making a Difference for the Environment,” Antonio Tamayao lectured on what a keynote speaker’s objectives are. He presented that “we are in a post-modern era” facing “unconventional information sources” and it is urgent that we “develop a habit of suspicion” toward the events that confront the modern journalists. “What we see is not always the truth.”

Reiterating his point, he said that campus journalist should observe, 1) Precise writing of facts; 2) Consistency; 3) Reason judgment – become critical to various information from media; and 4) Revisit journalistic ethics.

The said presscon was participated by 150 delegates from 25 schools from the provinces of the region.

The three staff will join the delegates of the region in the 8th Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference on February 11-14 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan which will be participated by seven regions of the Luzon island.
